Suriya’s Scene has locked its Telugu release. NVR Cinema has acquired the film’s theatrical rights for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and the deal sets a big target for the film in the Telugu states.
Scene Telugu States Deal
- Rights Value: ₹15 Cr
- Break-Even Target: ₹30 Cr+ gross
- Distributor: NVR Cinema
- Release: November 6 (Diwali)
What It Needs to Recover
The Telugu rights have been sold for ₹15 Cr. To recover that amount along with release and publicity expenses, Scene needs to collect more than ₹30 Cr gross in the Telugu states.
That’s a big number for a dubbed Tamil film, and it will need a strong opening along with good word of mouth to get there.
Suriya’s Telugu Market Is Back
The deal shows renewed confidence in Suriya’s Telugu market. His recent film Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Telugu filmmaker Venky Atluri, was a hit in both Tamil and Telugu, and it brought Suriya back in a big way with Telugu audiences.
Suriya has always had a strong fan base in the Telugu states, going back to the days of Ghajini, Singam and 24. Scene now has the chance to build on that.
The Jithu Madhavan Factor
Scene is directed by Jithu Madhavan, whose Aavesham became a cult favourite across South India, including among Telugu audiences who watched it on OTT. Sushin Shyam, who composed the hit music of Aavesham, is scoring this film too.
Naslen, popular in the Telugu states after Premalu, plays the villain, while Nazriya Nazim plays the female lead.
The film is produced by Jyotika and Suriya under 2D Entertainment, along with Zhagaram Studios.
A Crowded Diwali Week
Scene won’t have an easy road. Ramayana releases on November 5, a day earlier, and it’s expected to take a big share of screens. Itlu Arjuna also arrives on November 6.
The trailer, arriving this weekend, will play a big role in building the buzz Scene needs to reach its target.
